Here we Grow!
As Duke Dodder surveys the 2015 sweet onion crop for Country Sweet Produce it’s important to take pride in our origins. The Valpredo family has been growing onions in this ground since 1964, when John and his two sons Don and Jon took the big first step into this eventual staple item for the company. We’ve expanded to having one of the most complete summer programs anywhere in the Central Valley, growing for many outside groups as well as ourselves. Today we grow, harvest, store pack and sell a bandwidth of summer onions that includes yellows, whites, reds, sweets and the new flat Italian red. All onions are grown both conventionally and certified organic. Once Memorial Day passes in late May they will be harvesting again, and we’ll be back in the fields with hopeful glances like the one Duke shows above.
